Building the right team is critical for growth. When you are in the early stages it could be difficult to attract high-performing employees, especially if they have experienced the comfort, security, and structure of the corporate world.
One way to sway their decision is by asking them what their dream job would look like, most of the time they need flexible hours, more time off, or even just a better environment, it usually isn’t about money.
One of the biggest benefits of a startup is that the team is usually smaller, quickly enough it starts to feel like family. With only a handful of people on your team, you can get to know everyone on a deeper, more personable level, allowing you to better understand their needs.
In these small team settings, employees can work closely with founders and owners. The small working quarters allow each team member to absorb the contagious passion and follow in the footsteps of their driven leader.
Building a high-performance team for your business is absolutely critical for success and will require a lot of your focus. MICHAEL GILMOUR
It is essential to create an environment where employees flourish, especially if you have a younger team. Michele mentions a great example as she has implemented this idea by giving each employee the freedom to work from home if they want to.
It’s also a great opportunity to explore and gain experience in areas you haven’t worked in before. Startups go by the motto of trial and error which creates a safe space for creativity and exploration.
It’s really important that they feel satisfied with their job, it fuels their motivation. MICHELE VAN TILBORG
Delegating responsibilities instead of tasks allows employees to bring their passion to work. When you take a more personable approach to assign job responsibilities, you give employees the opportunity to become leaders and challenge themselves as well, creating a space for growth!
It is vital to remain transparent with your team every step of the way. That’s why it is key to bring in the right people; more than anything, you want people who are going to enjoy the challenge of uncertainty and will want to work towards the same goals because they believe in what they’re doing as much as you do.
